What is holding you back from helping other people with hypnosis?  When I talk to people who want to help others with hypnosis, it is almost always one of 5 things holding them back from seeing clients, and building a successful practice.

  • Lack of Confidence: Many people take hypnosis course and learn how to do hypnosis, but then lack the confidence to start doing hypnosis with other people. There are a couple solutions to this, first practice! Practice with friends, family or other hypnotists. Second, stick to proven methods at first, like the contextual-autogenic induction in the ICBCH Gold Level Training Course. Third, use hypnosis to increase your own confidence level. I created a video a few years ago called, “Hypnosis for the Hypnotist”. I will post the video at the bottom of this blog post so you can use it!

  • Not Practicing Self-Hypnosis: The way to be good at hypnotizing others, is to develop your own practice of self-hypnosis. Have you used self-hypnosis to address some of your own needs and changes?  When you do, you will increase your confidence because your own first-hand experience will compel you to share the wonderful results with others!

  • Not having script resources: Many people fear, that if they start a session, they will forget the suggestions that they think will be helpful to a client. The easiest way to remedy this is to have a script. Yes, you should not do “scriptnosis” and read scripts verbatim to clients in a session, but you should have scripts that you use as an outline and adapt to your clients. I bring scripts to sessions, and tell clients I might “refer to my notes” to make sure that I cover everything important to them. By doing this, you normalize the use of notes or scripts in a session.

  • Having a structure: Creating a structure is essential. A session needs a beginning, a middle and an end. A lot of people study induction, deepeners, or suggestive therapy, but don’t really learn to put all the pieces together. What is the structure of a session? Almost every session I do is planned from start to finish. In other words, the session begins when they walk in the door. It does not end until they leave the session.  In fact, my favorite post hypnotic suggestion is, “When you leave my office today, and step over the threshold of the door (insert post-hypnotic suggestion here.)”  You can see this at work in each of the demonstration videos I created for the QuitSuccess Stop Smoking Program. I have been using this protocol since 2006, and have found it to be the best way to structure sessions, not only for clients but for other types of sessions.

  • Not knowing where to get clients to hypnotize. Many people who learn hypnosis, never study the business side of developing a practice, and so they don’t know how to take their skills to the next level. Every year, I meet skilled hypnotists at conventions all around the country, but these same hypnotists are not seeing clients. They just don’t know where to find them. I created a class to help you find your next 5 paying clients, and thrive in private practice.

Check out the video to the left, that was when my hair was in the “wild days”, but the content is great. It is a session that you can do to both create confidence, and even begin practicing self hypnosis.  If there is ever anything I can do to help you succeed as a hypnotist, just let me know!

Best Wishes,

Dr. Richard Nongard
